Competitions
If you are a competitive person there are many opportunities to test your skills with Buckenham House RDA;
Group Competitions
We often run competitions within the group for fun:
•
In 2011 we ran a summer league of competitions - a different test each month (dressage, obstacle
course, gymkhana, show jumping and road safety) with a different guest judge each time. There were
rosettes for each individual competition and and overall winner of the whole league.
•
In 2000 we took part in the Pet Plan Millenium Challenge, each rider was sponsored to ride a 2000m
course to raise money for charity.
•
Some years we run a Fun Day when riders spend the day at the stables and have a chance to spend time
looking after the horses and ponies, riding, hacking and competing.
•
On the last ride before Christmas we often have dressing up competitions - best decorated riding hat,
best decorated pony and so on.
•
Sometimes we are lucky enough to be invited to compete at competitions run by other local RDA
groups, and sometimes we invite them back.
RDA Regional and National Competitions
RDA runs dressage and Countryside Challenge competitions at both Regional and National level and we have
taken part in the past with some success, and even had a National Champion one year!
Norfolk County RDA runs a County Gymkhana each year, in which our Friday riders regularly compete, and
have twice won the challenge shield on behalf of the group.
Another way to compete on a Regional and National level without actually taking the horses away from home is
via the RDA musical ride videos - a video is created of the drill ride to music and it is sent in to compete against
other videos from other RDA groups.
The latest national competition is in conjunction with to the Dressage Anywhere website, where you can record
your dressage test and upload the film onto their website. In the first couple of years of taking part in this
competition we have had great success with several riders qualifying for the annual finals and some being
placed, including one champion in the first year
